Fostering Kittens

I’ve started a project of doing self portraits with my foster kittens.  This is my first – a sweet girl named Erilynn.  Turns out I’m not very good at fostering as I made my boyfriend adopt her.  Whoops!  Hopefully it will be easier to let go of the next one.

P.S. I’ve also started a tumblr inspired by my research for the project so click here to see lots of pictures of girls with cats!

omg kitties!

For those fashionistas that read my blog, I know you’re familiar with The Sartorialist.  Today I bring to you the best spin-off ever – The CATORIALIST.  Fancy kitties from all over!  How cute!  Perfect!

Christian The Lion

Okay so I’ve missed this “viral video” until today.. but I’ve just added about 18 views to the 6million others..

Yeah.. I laughed.. I cried.. love it.  AND I highly recommend watching the interview linked below on the today show with the two men, there are extra cute pictures of them with the cub.  Christian chillin’ in the back of their bently for one.  Oh. Yes.  One day I do hope to be fortunate enough to be able to donate to the George Adamson Trust. It seems they do amazing things.

the wild chronicles

I took Roxie to the dog beach yesterday between shopping trips. As you can probably tell from the pictures.. it was freeeeeezing! No joke either… just tons and tons of ice and snow and sand. I could only stand it for 30 minutes but it was still really fun and the lake’s beaches are GORGEOUS and all the dogs were cute. I highly recommend it.

Another thing I highly reccomend – The Wild Chronicles a video podcast by National Geographic

Its basically a bunch of little 5-7minute video segments on different animals. Sounds simple, it is simple, but its soooo much fun! Maybe its because I’m cable deprived and can’t get my animal planet fix while channel surfing the night away anymore but these little podcasts are such a delight! I put a video on while getting dressed in the morning or if I just want to waste 5 minutes before leaving for work.. they’re interesting, stimulating, fun to look at and they don’t even consume your time. I love the crittercam episodes the most – they are video cameras taped to the backs of animals that record 10 minutes of every hour for a period of time and get a better idea of what more elusive creatures are up to. They had it in the first episode that hooked me – about the hawksbill sea turtle. I also reccomend octopus survival, leader of the pack, and crittercam monk seals. UPDATE: OMG watch PENTABEAR! 3 words; baby bear cubs.

Enjoy!

The Nutcracker on Horseback

Yes, its just what it sounds like. The play, the nutcracker.. on horses. How could I resist?

The noble horse theatre in Chicago is a fine establishment. Its been around since 1871 and doesn’t have the cheesey factor you’ll find at Midevil Times. It DOES however, have the cheesey factor where it counts – in the show! A girl dancing with a nutcracker enveloped fellow atop a white horse is not something you’ll see any day. It was so silly, but the stunts WERE spetacular! The horses dancing were silly and nice, but the cossack riders! HOLY SMOKES!

ALSO! Okay, the place is BYOB and midway through the show I was reverting back to my 8yo excitement level. I was so into it! There was one point when they did the stunt where the horse wasn’t being ridden but listening to the trainers’ signals.. they sent the horse running out from the dark into the light without the saddle and it felt so magical I let out an audible gasp! It’s ridiculous! Absurd! SO SEE IT IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN!
